Building A Family Home Storage

Building A Family Home Storage

Natural disasters are not an uncommon event these days. Hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires have hit many parts of our country and can be found happening all over the world. Millions of people have been left homeless around the globe all because of natural disasters. There is no way to prevent a natural disaster from happening, but there is a way to be prepared for what happens.

The best way to be prepared is to build a family home storage. You never know how long you might be stuck in your house with no electricity or access to food and water. You could be stranded at your house for days and if you do not have any sort of storage your family might die of starvation. But there is no need to be afraid. You can start building your storage now and be ready for when disaster strikes.

The first thing to do is make sure you have a three month food supply. You can have a small supply of food that you eat every day. When you go to the grocery store each week buy a few extra items to build a one week supply of food. Continually increase to your food supply, whether quickly or gradually, until you have sufficient for three months. Rotate these food items regularly to avoid food spoilage. A three month supply of food will save your family’s life if something happens and you are unable to leave your home for an extended period of time.

Along with building up your food supply you want to build up your water supply. You will want to store drinking water for instance where your regular water is polluted or disrupted. Make sure you store your water in a sturdy, leak-proof container. You might also want to get some water purifiers just in case your water storage doesn’t come from a pretreated source. Be sure to keep your water stored in a place where it is away from heat sources and direct sunlight.

Once you have your three month supply of food and water you will want to start building a more long term supply of food. This should consist of wheat, white rice and beans, which are all foods that will last a long time and keep you alive. When properly packaged and kept in a cool place these items can last 30 years or more. Having long term storage will be vital in keeping your family fed and alive during natural disasters.

You never know what will happen but you can always be prepared. Begin now to build up that supply of food and water. Every small amount helps. Designate an area of your house where you will keep you family home storage. Put it in a place that will be easy to access in the event that disaster hits.
